How to Set Up, Facilitate, and Use the Climbing and Movement Area

1. Rotate different obstacles and goals for movement. For example, musical instruments, scarves, or streamers to dance with.

2. Explain physical health and body parts and what their functions are. When you exercise, your heart is beating fast to push blood through your body to bring your muscles more oxygen.

3. Demonstrate using different body parts and assist when needed through different activities. For example, hopping on one foot and holding one hand to help.

4. Encourage movement often. Walk the baby, turn on music or dance. Refer to Listening Area.

5. Exercise with them. Stretch, do yoga, jump rope, play hopscotch, and more.

6. Help when a child is having trouble. After trying many times, show him or her how to do it.

7. Commend them on the successful completion of a task. “You did it! You pumped on the swing without needing a push!”
